Individual therapy

Individual therapy is generally conducted face to face in our consulting room at City Executive Suites in the Canberra city. We understand how hard it can be to seek help. In your first session you can expect your psychologist to want to get to understand your concerns, explore relevant history and stressors, determine your strengths and supports and find out your goals for therapy. We then discuss options and a plan for moving forward.

If you wish to claim a Medicare rebate you will need to bring a referral from your GP (or Psychiatrist) and a Mental Health Care Plan. To get a Mental Health Care Plan you will need to consult with your GP and book in for a longer GP appointment.

skype/phone consultations

Skype and phone sessions are available if needed. Medicare rebates and many private health rebates are not available though for phone and Skype consultations.

insurance

We work with clients who have accepted insurance claims, such as with GIO or NRMA. Before being able to claim psychology sessions on insurance you must have an approved claim number and written approval for psychological assessment or therapy from your insurer or claims manager. We need communication in writing confirming the agreed number of psychological sessions funded by the claim. The criteria for these are determined on a case by case basis via your insurance provider and you. They may ask you to see your GP first.

worker's compensation

If you have been the victim of workplace harrasment or bullying, an excessive workload, a workplace injury or traumatic workplace event resulting in symptoms of depression, anxiety and/or trauma, then you may be able to access psychological counselling as part of your recovery via worker's compensation eg Comcare, WorkCover. If you think this applies to you, consult with your GP as they can initiate this for you if they think you are eligible. Before you can start counselling you must have an approved claim number and written approval from your insurer for psychological assessment or therapy.
